Oracle has signed agreements to procure over 1.7 GW of wind energy in Texas. The power will support the company's data center campus in Abilene and will be delivered through the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid.
The initiative involves 10 projects with multiple renewable energy providers. A virtual power purchase agreement with RWE covers 433 MW from the Panther Creek wind farms in West Texas, which include three sites operational since 2008 and 2009, with one site upgraded in 2021.
Oracle also secured 568 MW through an agreement with Engie North America, sourced from a portfolio of wind assets. The company has not yet disclosed the capacity details for the remaining agreements.
These deals align with Oracle's goal to match 100% of its data center electricity consumption with carbon-free energy by 2035. Earlier in September, the company also issued a request for proposals for 2 GW of new renewable energy projects in New Mexico.
