Daily trading volume for individual stock options has reached approximately $700 billion, matching levels observed in 2021. During that year, Bitcoin prices surged from roughly $29,000 to a peak of nearly $65,000 in April, coinciding with a significant rise in retail interest in derivatives.
Current retail sentiment metrics align with 2021 data, as 40.3% of investors surveyed by the American Association of Individual Investors anticipate stock price growth over the next six months. However, analysts note that current retail capital is concentrated in specific stocks rather than distributed across the broader market.
Data from SoSoValue indicates recent outflows from spot crypto ETFs. On October 12, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows of $65.40 million, driven entirely by BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust. Ethereum spot ETFs also saw outflows of $85.39 million, marking a 10-day consecutive streak.
While retail trading activity often increases in October following summer lulls, it remains uncertain whether cryptocurrency funds will benefit from this trend. Bitcoin is currently trading just below $84,000, and its ability to replicate the 2021 performance remains a subject of market analysis.
