A developer optimized a .NET MAUI application for sales representatives to address performance issues with list rendering. Testing was conducted on a Lenovo Tab K10 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+, using the adb dumpsys gfxinfo tool to measure frame performance and identify janky frames.

The optimization process, spanning from July to October, involved replacing ListView with CollectionView for better virtualization, implementing data loading locks to prevent parallel request conflicts, and pre-calculating data in background threads. These changes reduced UI thread load significantly.

Key UI improvements included using fixed row heights, removing complex layouts like FlexLayout and RelativeSource, and caching color converters. A custom handler for image views was implemented to prevent layout recalculations during asynchronous loading, and the RecyclerView cache size was increased.

The new version of the application achieved a nearly 4x faster scroll speed on the older Lenovo tablet compared to the previous Xamarin.Forms version. On the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+, the number of janky frames decreased by nearly 6 times, with typical frames meeting the 11.1 ms budget.
