The open-source RGB lighting control software OpenRGB has officially reached version 1.0. This release arrives three years after the debut of version 0.9 and introduces significant architectural changes to the platform.
A key improvement in the 1.0 release is the redesign of configuration files, allowing the software to operate as a background service. Users no longer need to keep the main application window open to manage their lighting profiles.
The development team has migrated the software from the Qt5 framework to Qt6. Additionally, the integration of PawnIO expands compatibility, enabling support for a wider range of RGB memory modules and legacy motherboards.
The update includes the new OpenRGB SDK 6 and a revised plugin API. Because of these changes, older plugins require a rebuild to function correctly. The developers plan to release updated versions of compatible plugins following the main software launch.
