OpenAI has introduced a new AI agent called Dots, which is designed for continuous operation and features a cartoonish character. The announcement follows a series of public interactions between OpenAI and Elon Musk, who previously co-founded the company before launching his own competing AI firm, xAI.
The domain dot.com, which matches the name of the new product, is currently owned by Musk's xAI. According to Whois records, the domain transfer was completed in July. Currently, the address redirects users directly to the download page for Grok, the chatbot developed by xAI.
While some suggest the acquisition might be a standard domain investment or an attempt to capture traffic from potential typos, others speculate it was a preemptive move by Musk's team. The situation was first highlighted by a user on the X platform, drawing significant attention to the domain ownership.
