OpenAI is expected to unveil its new AI agent, Aeon, at the upcoming 2026 DevDay event. The company aims to compete with existing market solutions like Meta’s Muse, which currently reports 600,000 daily active users in the US, and Google’s Gemini Spark, which integrates with over 30 external services including Uber and Spotify.

The development of Aeon reportedly involves Peter Steinberger, the creator of the open-source agent OpenClaw. OpenAI intends to leverage its new frontier model, GPT-6 Astra, to power the agent. Company president Greg Brockman recently stated that the organization believes it has entered the era of artificial general intelligence.

Current AI agents in the market perform tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing subscriptions, and booking travel. However, these tools face significant security challenges, including reported vulnerabilities and privacy concerns regarding the unauthorized sharing of personal data.

OpenAI faces stiff competition from companies with established ecosystems. Meta integrates Muse with its vast user base, while Google connects Gemini Spark to its suite of enterprise and personal services. OpenAI previously introduced the ChatGPT Apps SDK to enable integrations with platforms like Canva and Zillow.

Beyond the Aeon agent, rumors suggest OpenAI may announce updates to its hardware projects developed with Jony Ive, potential advancements to the GPT-6 model, and further details regarding its AGI roadmap. These announcements come as the company prepares for its upcoming IPO.
