OpenAI is currently negotiating a private funding round of at least $30 billion. The company is in discussions with BlackRock and investment funds from the United Arab Emirates, including the Abu Dhabi-based MGX, which is backed by Mubadala and G42. These potential investors have discussed forming a syndicate to contribute up to $10 billion.
The proposed deal sets a fixed pre-money valuation for OpenAI at $1.4 trillion. This figure represents a 64% increase over the $852 billion post-money valuation recorded in March. If the $30 billion investment is finalized, the post-money valuation would reach approximately $1.43 trillion.
Existing backers, including the University of California’s endowment, Thrive Capital, and Andreessen Horowitz, have also been approached regarding participation in the round. The company has officially ruled out an initial public offering in 2026, citing safety concerns as a primary reason for delaying a public listing.
OpenAI’s current annualized revenue run rate is approaching $70 billion, marking a growth of more than 70% since the beginning of the third quarter. The proposed valuation of $1.4 trillion is approximately 20 times this revenue run rate. The company previously completed a $7 billion employee tender offer in August.
