OpenAI is seeking at least $30 billion in a new funding round, aiming for a valuation of approximately $1.4 trillion. This move follows the company's decision to postpone its initial public offering, which was previously expected to occur in 2026.
CEO Sam Altman stated that a 2026 public listing is ill-advised due to market volatility and the need for further organizational maturity regarding AI safety. The company now targets an IPO for 2027.
In March 2026, OpenAI raised $122 billion at a post-money valuation of $852 billion. That round included investments of $50 billion from Amazon, as well as $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank.
The proposed $1.4 trillion valuation marks an increase from previous discussions that estimated the company's worth at $1.2 trillion. OpenAI had previously filed confidentially for an IPO with the SEC in June 2026.
