Sachin Katti, the head of computing capacity at OpenAI, will step down from his position on November 15, 2026. He joined the company from Intel in late 2025 and will transition into an advisory role following his departure.
Uday Ruddarraju, who previously worked as an executive at xAI, will take over the infrastructure and compute divisions. Ruddarraju has served as the CTO of compute at OpenAI since July 2026.
OpenAI has revised its projected spending on computing resources through 2030 to approximately $750 billion, up from an earlier estimate of $600 billion.
During Katti’s tenure, the company prioritized cloud partnerships with AWS and large-scale leasing projects, such as an 8-gigawatt initiative in Ohio involving SB Energy and Nvidia. However, internal data center efforts, including the Stargate project, have faced delays.
The departure of Katti follows the exit of Chris Malone, the former head of data centers, who left the organization in August 2026.
