OpenAI introduced its new intelligent assistant, dots, during the DevDay 2026 event held on September 30. The assistant features four distinct cartoon-style avatars and is designed to assist users with various tasks, including agenda planning, website design, application testing, and note editing.
The assistant leverages the Astra model and integrates with over 4,000 applications available on the ChatGPT platform. It can access connected plugins when a device is linked to the system, allowing for seamless workflow management across different tools.
Dots is capable of learning user habits and focus areas over time. It monitors incoming messages and provides summaries of urgent matters each morning. Additionally, the assistant handles personal tasks such as booking flights, scheduling dinners, and managing home improvement projects.
Users can interact with dots through voice calls. The system includes built-in security mechanisms, allowing users to set usage limits for applications and computers, as well as define custom instructions for any actions performed by the assistant on their devices.
