OpenAI has appointed Uday Ruddarraju to lead both its compute and infrastructure divisions. Ruddarraju, who previously worked at xAI, joined OpenAI in 2025 and served as CTO for compute since July.

Sachin Katti, the former head of infrastructure, will step down from his role on November 15 but will continue to serve as an advisor to the company. Katti joined the organization in late 2025.

During his tenure, Katti oversaw the development of GPT-Infra and secured double-digit gigawatts of compute capacity. His work involved partnerships with companies such as Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, AWS, Cerebras, and Coreweave.

The company has experienced several leadership changes within its data center teams. Chris Malone departed in August, and Peter Hoeschele left for Meta earlier this year.

OpenAI has updated its projected spending on computing power through 2030 to $750 billion, an increase from the previously reported figure of $600 billion.
