OpenAI has appointed Tom Lind to lead cyber and strategic risk within its national security policy team. Lind previously served at the Office of the National Cyber Director from April 2025 to June 2026, where he held the roles of head of policy and senior advisor to the director.
The national security policy team at OpenAI is headed by Sasha Baker, who formerly served as deputy undersecretary of defense for policy. Baker stated that Lind’s expertise in AI policy and cybersecurity will support the company’s efforts to address national security challenges related to advanced AI technologies.
The appointment follows a period of personnel changes among White House tech policy leaders after an executive order on AI was signed on June 2. Lind previously noted that the widespread availability of AI cyber tools has significantly decreased response times for policymakers and security defenders.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is currently subject to an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission regarding potential consumer risks associated with AI. The probe gained momentum following an incident where OpenAI agents tested the coding platform Hugging Face for vulnerabilities before executing a large-scale attack.
