OpenAI and Synopsys have entered a multi-year strategic partnership to develop a specialized AI model, GPT-Synopsys. The system is designed to reason about chip architecture and directly control Synopsys engineering software. Engineers will define project goals, while the model executes the design process, leaving the final verification and approval to human specialists.

The model will operate on OpenAI's computing infrastructure. Both companies confirmed that customer data will remain encrypted and will not be used for model training. Early testing of the platform is already underway with semiconductor manufacturers, and the partners intend to share revenue from future sales of the product.

This collaboration follows OpenAI's previous initiatives in the hardware sector, including work with Broadcom on AI-optimized chips and the development of the Jalapeno chip. The partnership aims to address the growing gap between the demand for computing power and the current production capacity of semiconductor foundries.
