OpenAI and Synopsys have entered into a multi-year strategic partnership to develop a specialized artificial intelligence model named GPT-Synopsys. The project integrates OpenAI's technology with the electronic design automation software provided by Synopsys.
The new model is designed to reason about chip architecture and verification while directly operating Synopsys tools. Engineers will define design objectives, while the system handles the execution, with human oversight required for final review and approval.
The platform will operate on OpenAI's infrastructure, with both companies guaranteeing that customer data will remain encrypted and excluded from model training. Early testing of the technology with semiconductor clients has already commenced.
The companies plan to market the product jointly and share the resulting revenue. This collaboration follows OpenAI's existing work with Broadcom on the Jalapeno chip, which is intended for running AI models.
