OpenAI launched its autonomous agent system called dots on September 29, 2026. These agents operate on the GPT-6 Astra model and are designed to function continuously within workplace platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams.
To ensure security, the dots system requires explicit user authorization before performing sensitive tasks like password changes or data deletion. OpenAI currently reports over 35 million weekly users for its Codex and ChatGPT Work products, while its consumer ChatGPT app attracts more than 1.2 billion weekly users.
Meta released its own autonomous agent, Muse, earlier in September 2026, which has already reached millions of downloads. Both companies are implementing safety measures, including custom data controls, adjustable user permissions, and settings to prevent the retention of enterprise usage data.
