OpenAI is actively attracting major clients from Anthropic by offering significant price reductions. Companies such as Rippling, Replit, and DataCamp have already shifted a larger portion of their AI budgets toward OpenAI services.
Rippling increased its reliance on OpenAI for coding tasks from 16 percent to 52 percent, while its usage of Anthropic dropped from 57 percent to 18 percent. Replit secured a discount exceeding 30 percent on a contract valued at over $100 million annually.
DataCamp reported cost savings of 80 to 90 percent due to new pricing. Additionally, a US bank with assets exceeding $7 billion doubled its ChatGPT access to 500 employees, paying less than $7 per user instead of the standard rate of $20 or more.
OpenAI attributes some of these price adjustments to the efficiency of its Sol and Luna model lines and infrastructure improvements. Meanwhile, an investor memo indicates that Anthropic experienced a slowdown in growth between the second and third quarters.
The competitive landscape is further complicated by Chinese developers. Models from Deepseek and Kimi now provide performance levels comparable to industry leaders at a significantly lower cost, putting additional pressure on pricing.
