OpenAI has updated its revenue projections for investors, stating that the current annual revenue run rate is nearing $50 billion. This figure is significantly lower than the previous estimate of $70 billion, which had circulated in media reports just over a week ago.
The discrepancy stems from different accounting methodologies. Anthropic includes sales generated through cloud partners in its calculations, whereas OpenAI excludes these figures. Consequently, the adjustment represents a revision of reporting standards rather than a confirmed decline in actual income.
Financial transparency remains critical as the company manages heavy investments in artificial intelligence development. In March, OpenAI successfully raised $122 billion in a single funding round. Previous reports for 2025 indicated revenue of approximately $13 billion, which was insufficient to cover the company's operational costs.
These financial metrics are closely monitored by investors as the company prepares for a potential public offering. While initial projections suggested an IPO in 2026, recent reports from August indicate that the timeline has been pushed back to early 2027. OpenAI has not yet issued an official comment regarding these updated revenue figures.
