3mdeb has successfully ported AMD openSIL and Coreboot to the MSI PRO B850P WiFi motherboard. This marks the first time these open-source silicon initialization and firmware solutions have been brought to a retail AMD Ryzen AM5 motherboard, as previous AMD openSIL proof-of-concept ports were limited to internal reference boards.
To ensure the project's financial sustainability, 3mdeb is selling the MSI PRO B850P motherboard pre-loaded with Dasharo firmware via their webshop. For users prioritizing security, the company also offers tamper-proof sealing services.
Deployment of the Dasharo firmware on this motherboard is possible via MSI FlashBIOS, which involves placing the image as MSI.ROM on a USB drive and using a physical button. This method is an alternative to using an external programmer, as AMD ROM Armor protection prevents the host operating system from writing to the BIOS via Flashrom.
The current implementation is limited by the AMD openSIL proof-of-concept targeting Phoenix APUs. Consequently, the motherboard supports a limited range of CPUs, including the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G, as well as other Ryzen 8000 series Phoenix-based parts. The Ryzen 9000 series is not yet supported.
