OmniVision Group has unveiled the OX08D30, an 8-megapixel CMOS image sensor designed for automotive exterior cameras. The hardware is built on the company's proprietary TheiaCel technology, which combines lateral overflow integration capacitors and high dynamic range features to improve image quality in complex lighting conditions.

The sensor is specifically engineered for advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous driving applications. It effectively suppresses LED flickering, a common challenge that often hinders traffic signal recognition in automated systems. The device supports a detection range of up to 200 meters while maintaining high color accuracy and thermal performance.

The OX08D30 is pin-to-pin compatible with the existing OX08D10 sensor, which is widely used in current ADAS platforms. OmniVision utilized its a-CSP packaging technology to reduce the physical size of the unit by 50 percent compared to previous models, while also achieving a 20 percent reduction in power consumption.

The new sensor is currently available for sampling and has already entered the mass production phase.
