According to the latest forecast from Omdia, the global television market is expected to face a 1.0% decline in total shipments. Despite this downward trend, the segment for premium televisions priced above $1,000 is projected to grow by 9.3% by 2027. North America is anticipated to lead this growth with a significant increase of 21.9%.

Rising component costs and memory shortages are currently impacting manufacturer profit margins. Companies are responding by prioritizing resources for high-end models, which offer more flexibility to absorb these expenses. This strategic shift is designed to protect overall hardware profitability in a challenging economic environment.

The report also highlights a shift in display technology adoption. Omdia expects the market share of RGB LED backlight technology to grow steadily in the premium sector. By 2028, its market share is projected to be comparable to that of OLED, and by 2030, RGB LED technology is expected to account for 49% of the premium television market.
