Old Major Market, an artisan meat distributor based in Indianapolis, has updated its financial strategy regarding cryptocurrency payments. Starting in 2026, the company decided to retain 100% of all Bitcoin received from customers directly on its corporate balance sheet.
The business, which specializes in products like maple bourbon bacon, sausages, and specialty meats, delivers its goods to all 48 contiguous states. The shift in policy follows a period where the company initially accepted Bitcoin but converted all transactions into fiat currency through payment processors.
The transition was influenced by a consistent volume of Bitcoin payments from local customers in Central Indiana. According to owner Mark LaFay, the decision to hold the asset reflects a long-term outlook on the potential upside of Bitcoin, moving away from the practice of immediate liquidation.
