The Octopus for Tourists application has officially launched on Huawei's AppGallery, currently available in version 1.0.0. The app is exclusively compatible with devices running HarmonyOS 5 or higher.

Octopus is a contactless smart card system introduced in Hong Kong in September 1997 for public transport payments. The technology utilizes NFC to facilitate transactions across retail, access control, and government services, while also supporting integration with wearable devices.

Huawei Pay users can process payments for transportation and retail purchases by tapping their devices against readers without needing to unlock the phone or launch the app. The service allows users to check balances in real time and top up their cards using UnionPay without queuing.
