According to industry reports, Nvidia has decided to restrict the distribution of its GB202 GPU. The chip will be exclusively reserved for the RTX PRO Blackwell professional graphics card lineup, effectively removing it from the consumer GeForce RTX 50 series.
This strategic shift implies the discontinuation of the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5090 D v2 models. Consequently, the GeForce RTX 5080 will become the highest-performing option available for gaming enthusiasts in the upcoming product generation.
Nvidia currently maintains three tiers of professional-grade hardware based on the GB202 architecture, identified as the 6000, 5500, and 5000 Blackwell series. Notably, the recently introduced RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell shares the same GPU specifications as the discontinued flagship consumer cards.
