Nvidia has increased the price of its Shield TV Pro streaming device by $100. The console, which was originally released in October 2019, now retails for $299.99 instead of the previous $199 price point.

The company attributed this price hike to a significant rise in component costs across the industry, specifically citing memory prices. Despite the device being seven years old and lacking support for the AV1 codec, Nvidia continues to manufacture and support it.

Alongside the price adjustment, Nvidia has officially discontinued the base model of the Shield TV, which was previously sold in a tube-shaped form factor. This version has been unavailable for purchase for several months.

Nvidia has confirmed that it will maintain software support for the Shield TV Pro for the foreseeable future. The company is not alone in this trend, as other streaming devices, including Google TV Streamer, Apple TV 4K, and several Roku models, have also seen price increases.
