Nvidia announced the Personal AI Router (PAIR) at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The tool is a local distributed clustering system designed for AI agent enthusiasts to run small language models and accelerate agentic workloads using idle computers in a home network.
The system works by dividing AI tasks into subtasks and distributing them across available GPU resources. If a node becomes unavailable due to users gaming or working, PAIR redistributes the workload to other available nodes or returns it to the main node, ensuring elastic resource management.
The software is compatible with systems featuring DGX Spark, GeForce RTX 20-series GPUs or newer, and Mac computers with M4-series processors or more recent chips. It supports macOS, Windows, and Linux systems.
Setup is streamlined through the software installation on local devices, which creates a proxy for AI front ends like LM Studio and Ollama. The system uses mDNS or IP addresses for device discovery and automatically initiates model downloads on participating machines.
