Vince Lucido, a professional overclocker known as Kingpin, recently shared details regarding his past collaboration with EVGA and Nvidia. The dispute centered on the development of the EVGA RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 Kingpin, which was released in the spring of 2022. This high-end graphics card was specifically designed for enthusiasts and overclockers.
The core of the conflict involved the power delivery system. While standard RTX 3090 Ti models utilized a single 12VHPWR power connector, the Kingpin edition was engineered with two. Lucido stated that Nvidia actively pressured EVGA to limit the design to a single connector, which significantly disrupted the production timeline and constrained the final capabilities of the hardware.
Lucido expressed frustration over the interference, noting that for a product priced above $5000, users should have full control over the hardware's potential. The RTX 3090 Ti is capable of consuming over 500 watts under load. The Kingpin model featured a three-channel power distribution system following the 12VHPWR connector, which ensured stable operation.
