Nvidia has launched the RTX Spark N1X, an Arm-based SoC for laptops and small desktops. The chip features 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU CUDA cores in flagship configurations, while lower-cost versions offer 18 CPU cores and 5,120 CUDA cores.
Laptops featuring the new chip are currently available from manufacturers including Microsoft, Asus, Lenovo, and HP. Pricing for these devices is high, ranging from $2,599.99 for entry-level models to $6,999.99 for top-spec configurations.
The hardware is designed to support local AI models and gaming via Nvidia DLSS 5. Testing indicates that while the chip handles many tasks, gaming performance varies by title, often requiring medium settings at 1440p to maintain 60fps.
Battery life remains a challenge for the initial wave of RTX Spark devices. Despite being equipped with 99.9 watt-hour batteries, real-world usage typically results in approximately 5 hours of operation, with power consumption spiking significantly during gaming or video editing.
The platform supports Windows on Arm, with most x86 applications running through Microsoft’s Prism emulation layer. While native Arm development has increased, some specialized software and legacy games may still encounter compatibility or performance issues.
