Nvidia, Google, and Emerald AI have established the Advanced Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) to promote the development of flexible data centers. These facilities are designed to reduce power consumption or switch to on-site battery storage during periods of high electrical grid strain.

Google currently maintains a demand response capacity of over 1 gigawatt. Nvidia provides the DSX Flex software tool, which optimizes grid usage and battery management for data centers utilizing its Rubin graphics cards.

Emerald AI recently secured $150 million in funding, with Nvidia participating as an investor. The companies are currently collaborating on a 100-megawatt data center in Manassas, Virginia, which will utilize the Emerald Conductor software to manage energy consumption during peak demand.

The AEMA consortium includes 18 additional members, such as Anthropic and Analog Devices. The group plans to establish industry best practices for power management, standardize evaluation metrics, and encourage the sharing of technical data among operators.
