Canadian transit operator OC Transpo has placed a new order for 120 LFSe+ electric buses with Nova Bus, a subsidiary of Volvo. The manufacturer will deliver these vehicles in phases, with completion expected by the third quarter of 2027. All buses will be manufactured and assembled in Canada. The financial terms of this contract remain undisclosed.

This procurement is part of the Zero-Emission Bus programme, through which OC Transpo aims to transition its entire fleet to zero-emission technology by 2036. The operator serves the Ottawa and Gatineau region. Following this latest purchase, the total number of electric buses ordered by the transit authority has reached 175 units, including a previous order of 51 buses placed in 2024.

The LFSe+ model is built on the existing LFS platform, designed for urban traffic and winter conditions. Beyond vehicle supply, Nova Bus provides technical support, staff training, and assistance with charging infrastructure. The partnership between the two companies began in 2017, and Nova Bus expects to have delivered over 400 buses of all types to Ottawa upon completion of this order.

Nova Bus reports that more than 500 of its electric buses are currently in service across Canada. The company also secured a significant contract in 2023, when ten transit operators in Quebec placed a joint order for up to 1,229 electric buses, which included 339 firm commitments.
