Nothing Phone (2) will not receive Android 17. The company's official update schedule for Nothing OS 5.0 reveals that Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 are excluded from the list of supported devices.
CEO Karl Pei explained that the device's chipset kernel is too old and the chipset manufacturer will not provide the necessary support for Android 17.
The company maintains that it has fulfilled its initial promises. Phone (2) was promised three major Android updates, which were delivered as Android 14, 15, and 16.
Phone (2) users will receive Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 as their final major update. Security updates will continue to be provided until July 2027 according to official policy.
