The developer released Notewing, a serverless web application for managing Markdown notes directly in a GitHub repository. This project serves as an alternative to BatNoter, which ceased operations in late 2022 after its backend server became unresponsive. Notewing is licensed under MIT and is available on GitHub.

The application eliminates the need for a backend by using the GitHub Git Data API and fine-grained personal access tokens. Users grant the application access to a single repository, ensuring that tokens remain within the browser. All changes are queued locally in IndexedDB before being pushed to the repository as a single commit.

To handle synchronization conflicts and race conditions, the system compares file hashes. If a conflict occurs, the application saves the user's version as a separate file rather than performing an automated merge. For empty repositories, the app uses the Contents API to initialize the first commit before switching to the Git Data API.

The editor is built on CodeMirror 6, with E2E tests used to resolve synchronization issues between the editor state and external updates. Security is maintained through DOMPurify for Markdown rendering and a strict Content Security Policy. The project also includes a FakeGitHub emulation layer for unit and E2E testing.
