Northrop Grumman has launched a new facility in Maryland, spanning 5,300 square meters, dedicated to the development and manufacturing of propulsion systems. This site is part of a broader $100 million expansion project that increases the company's design and production capacity for solid rocket motors by 25%.
The new center currently employs 250 engineers focused on propulsion systems for US and allied defense programs. This investment is part of a larger strategy, with the company having invested over $1 billion in solid rocket motor infrastructure across multiple states since 2018.
The company aims to significantly scale its output, targeting an increase from 13,000 solid rocket motors produced in 2024 to over 25,000 units annually by 2029. Additionally, Northrop Grumman plans to boost its annual rocket fuel production from approximately 13,600 tons to nearly 22,700 tons by 2028.
Northrop Grumman currently operates approximately 929,000 square meters of production space across three states. The company intends to continue expanding its infrastructure, supply chain, and research capabilities to meet the rising demand for missile and hypersonic system propulsion.
