Developer NorthPoint has proposed a plan to build a data center facility spanning 1,300 acres in Hazle Township. As part of the project proposal, the company began sending letters in June offering $10,000 checks to 4,500 local households, contingent upon the project receiving official approval.

Beyond direct payments to residents, the developer has proposed an additional investment package worth up to $120 million. These funds are intended to support local services, including improvements to schools and emergency infrastructure over a 15-year period.

The project currently faces significant opposition from the local community, with some residents characterizing the direct cash offers as a bribe. Concerns regarding potential noise pollution and the overall impact of the facility have contributed to the negative reception of the proposal.

Hazle Township government previously rejected the data center development on zoning grounds during the last year. Following the rejection, the local authorities implemented a temporary moratorium on the construction of new data centers within the area.
