The European Investment Fund has pledged up to €30 million to the Nordic Foodtech VC fund, specifically for its second vehicle, NFT.VC Fund II. This capital injection is designed to support early-stage agrifood deep-tech startups across Northern Europe and the broader European market.
Nordic Foodtech VC, based in Helsinki, aims for a total fund size of €80 million. The firm plans to invest in approximately 30 companies, focusing on pre-seed and seed stages. Its scope includes university spin-outs and research center projects related to agriculture, food, health, and biosolutions.
The second fund previously reached a first closing of €40 million in April 2025. The EIF commitment, acting through the European Investment Bank Group, is expected to attract additional private investors and bring the fund close to its target size.
The firm’s first fund has already backed 18 companies within the Nordic and Baltic regions. According to managing partner Mika Kukkurainen, the new capital will allow the firm to expand its reach and support technologies that address food security and climate resilience.
