MWS Cloud, a subsidiary of MTS, reported that the Nizhny Novgorod region leads the Volga Federal District in cloud backup adoption. Nationally, the region holds the sixth position in service usage as of 2026. Data shows a 20% year-on-year increase in backup service consumption within the region compared to 2025.

The real estate sector experienced the most significant growth, with demand rising by 463% year-on-year. Other active sectors include IT, communications, media, and manufacturing, which saw growth rates of 66% and 36% respectively. Wholesale and automotive trade businesses are also frequent users of these cloud solutions.

The surge in demand is linked to rising cybersecurity threats. According to RED Security, the Volga Federal District faced over 2,500 DDoS attacks in the first half of 2026, ranking second among Russian regions. Nizhny Novgorod is among the top four cities by the number of attacks recorded during this period.

Alongside the Nizhny Novgorod region, the top users of cloud backup services in the Volga Federal District include the Republic of Tatarstan, the Samara region, the Penza region, and the Udmurt Republic. Companies utilize these services to store server, database, and application copies to ensure business continuity.
