Nio launched its first fully solar-powered, off-grid battery swap station on September 23, 2026. Located at the Xingxingxia service area in the Xinjiang region, the facility operates independently of the power grid by utilizing solar generation and energy storage systems.

The station features Longi Block mobile energy units and H2D storage technology. It automatically manages power distribution, using direct solar energy during the day and stored power at night. The system is designed to withstand extreme desert conditions, including high winds and temperatures ranging from minus 30 to over 70 degrees Celsius.

This facility serves as a critical link in Nio's 3,605-kilometer Silk Road battery swap route, which includes 33 stations and is set for full connectivity on September 26. Once operational, this route will allow Nio vehicle owners to travel across every provincial-level administrative region in mainland China.

Nio currently operates 4,109 battery swap stations and 5,301 charging stations across China. The company has been integrating solar technology into its network since 2021 and established a strategic partnership with Longi in January 2024 to advance off-grid energy solutions for its infrastructure.
