Nintendo has released firmware version 23.0.0 for both the Switch and Switch 2 consoles. The update introduces Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for the Switch 2 in docked mode, requiring a dock firmware update to function. This feature synchronizes the TV refresh rate with the game frame rate for smoother output.
The GameChat functionality now includes access to previous chat history and allows users to join chats without selecting specific friends. A new menu option triggered by the C button enables screen size adjustments. Additionally, accessibility features now support text-to-speech and speech-to-text for Brazilian Portuguese.
Data management improvements include a full transfer feature between two Switch 2 consoles, covering save files and screenshots. Users can access this via the System settings. Virtual game card management has also been updated with a new status check interface and an online license option for temporary play if a transfer fails.
System settings now feature a toggle for handheld mode enhancement in the quick menu, accessible by holding the HOME button. This mode allows the use of external controllers even when Joy-Con 2 units are attached. Furthermore, play time records across multiple consoles are now merged into a single profile statistic.
