Nintendo has disclosed a security vulnerability affecting its Switch consoles. The flaw allows unauthorized parties to execute code or access stored information through a proximity-based attack. The exploit requires an attacker to scan a specific QR code displayed on the console or television screen.

The vulnerability is triggered only when users utilize the 'Send to Smartphone' feature in the album or play 'Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit'. If the QR code is not scanned, the console remains secure. The issue affects system firmware versions below 23.0.0.

Nintendo has released a system update to version 23.0.0 to address the security risk. Users can check and install the update via the System Settings menu. The company notes that this specific vulnerability does not impact the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

For users unable to update immediately, Nintendo advises ensuring that no third parties can scan the screen during the use of the affected features. Additionally, the company recommends avoiding the use of unauthorized smartphones for image transfers or third-party karts for gameplay.
