The Nomic Foundation released slang-solx on September 7, 2026. This LLVM-based compiler backend is designed for development environments and currently supports Solidity 0.8.34. It is not yet recommended for mainnet deployments.

In via-IR mode, slang-solx offers up to 5x faster compilation speeds compared to the traditional solc compiler. In legacy mode, the performance gain is approximately 1.7x. The project originated from the solx initiative started by Matter Labs in 2025.

On September 10, 2026, the core Solidity team launched version 0.8.37. This update addresses two security bugs categorized as low to medium severity and introduces support for the SLOTNUM opcode, which is linked to the Amsterdam EVM version.
