Tesla has commenced volume production of its Semi electric trucks at a new facility in Sparks, Nevada, with a projected annual output of 50,000 units. The company secured an order for 2,500 Class 8 electric trucks through the ZET SCALE collective, which includes members such as Microsoft and PepsiCo.
FedEx has placed an order for 2,000 electric trucks from the California-based startup Harbinger Motors. These vehicles, classified as Class 5 and 6 medium-duty trucks, are scheduled to be integrated into the FedEx North American delivery fleet by the end of 2027, replacing existing fossil-fuel vehicles on a one-to-one basis.
Harbinger estimates that the transition to these 2,000 electric trucks will result in fuel savings exceeding $800 million over a 20-year operational lifespan. The company notes that these vehicles are designed to match the 20-year service life typical of conventional trucks in this class.
Additionally, the Workhorse Group has received an order for 200 W56 electric step-vans from Gateway Fleets. Workhorse produces these vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Union City, Indiana, which maintains a production capacity of over 5,000 vehicles per year on a standard operating shift.
