Russian companies GS Nanotech and NIIET have completed the packaging of a pilot batch of the K1921VG10Ya microcontroller. This device is a compact version of the dual-core 32-bit RISC-V K1921VG1T model. The new version utilizes a BGA216 package measuring 13 by 13 millimeters, which is significantly smaller than the previous 28 by 28 millimeter LQFP-208 package.
According to the developers, the transition to the new package allows for a fivefold reduction in the printed circuit board area required for the microcontroller. The internal chip remains unchanged, featuring two 32-bit RISC-V cores with a clock frequency of up to 204 MHz. The device supports a lockstep mode for enhanced functional safety and error control.
The microcontroller is equipped with 4 MB of Flash memory, 1 MB of SRAM, and a Gigabit Ethernet interface. It also includes a hardware module for cryptographic tasks, supporting AES as well as the Russian Magma and Kuznyechik algorithms. GS Nanotech handled the full packaging cycle, including substrate development, crystal mounting, and sealing.
The pilot batch demonstrated a high yield of functional units, confirming the readiness for mass production. This project follows GS Nanotech's previous work on transitioning the K5591XC1Ya FPGA to a plastic BGA576 package. The compact design is intended for industrial automation and embedded electronics where space on the circuit board is limited.
