Four Chinese government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, released a draft notice on October 10. The document outlines new testing and validation requirements for automotive design, specifically targeting virtual controls, door handles, human-machine interfaces, and seat angles.
The industry views these regulations as a move to address concerns regarding rapidly developed vehicles. In response, Great Wall Motor Wei brand CEO Zhao Yongpo stated that safety systems, specifically brakes, represent the true essence of luxury in modern automotive design.
On October 9, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center issued a survey to major automakers regarding the materials used in brake pedal assemblies. The inquiry focuses on the use of non-metallic materials, a step typically associated with upcoming regulatory revisions. Changan Automobile confirmed receiving this survey.
Zhao Yongpo has held various leadership roles at Great Wall Motor since 2000, including positions at the technical center and as general manager for the Haval and Ora brands. He assumed the role of CEO for the Wei brand on December 21, 2025.
The Wei brand, established by Great Wall Motor in 2016, serves as the company's premium automotive division. Its current product lineup includes the Lanshan, Gaoshan, and Mocha models.
