Developer Arends created a 3D source code visualization tool capable of rendering 2.5 million lines of code at over 120 frames per second. The project initially required 21 GB of RAM, but the developer reduced memory consumption to 3.5 GB through indexing and streaming compression.
The software demonstrated the ability to load the entire Chromium source tree, consisting of 51 million lines, in 60 seconds. While the current version focuses on 3D navigation, the developer is considering adding features like dependency tracking and time-based change visualization.
Arends plans to commercialize the tool by charging a fee for access. Although the project has gained attention for its performance, the developer acknowledges that its practical utility remains to be fully defined compared to existing solutions like CodeCharta.
