The State Administration for Market Regulation released the updated mandatory product certification rules for power banks, lithium-ion batteries, and battery packs on May 25. Certification bodies have already issued the first 32 certificates under these new standards.

The updated framework incorporates the national safety standard GB 47372-2026. It mandates rigorous testing for critical safety indicators, including puncture and compression resistance. Manufacturers must also adhere to stricter quality control and product consistency requirements.

Certified power banks must now feature intelligent management, voltage regulation, and automatic disablement during anomalies. Devices require clear labeling, including the manufacturer, model, production date, and a unique product code, alongside specific safety warnings regarding physical damage.

Starting April 1, 2027, all power banks sold in the market must comply with these new certification rules. The regulatory authority plans to monitor compliance strictly and will penalize any instances of fraudulent certification or unauthorized use of certificates.
