NetApp has introduced new autonomous capabilities within its NetApp Console, allowing AI agents to manage storage infrastructure. The system utilizes a unified control plane that enables human administrators to establish specific policies and operational boundaries for the agents to follow.

During a demonstration at the NetApp INSIGHT event, the company showcased how AI agents can detect performance anomalies in real time. The agents automatically apply quality of service rules to maintain compliance with set boundaries, eliminating the need for manual intervention during nighttime hours.

Sandeep Singh, senior vice president at NetApp, emphasized the necessity of a consistent data foundation across on-premises, public, and neocloud environments. This approach aims to provide uniform data capabilities and operational experiences regardless of the infrastructure location.

Helen Yu, CEO of Tigon Advisory Corp., highlighted that effective AI deployment requires integrating machines into organizational governance frameworks, such as RACI. She noted that companies must clearly define accountability and access rights for AI agents to prevent the emergence of shadow IT systems.
