NetApp and Oracle have launched a fully managed storage service that integrates NetApp ONTAP software directly into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The solution is co-engineered to function as a native OCI service, sharing the same control plane, data plane, and billing infrastructure.

The integration allows users to access ONTAP directly through the OCI console. This design aims to provide a consistent operational experience for customers who already utilize NetApp storage in their on-premises data centers, facilitating a seamless migration process.

By running ONTAP natively within the Oracle cloud, companies can migrate mission-critical applications without needing to redesign them. The service is intended to simplify infrastructure management by consolidating operations under a single interface.

The companies also plan to collaborate on AI initiatives. The goal is to enable customers to run AI workloads directly where their data resides, utilizing NetApp’s data management capabilities for agentic workflows and inferencing without moving data to external locations.

NetApp and Oracle intend to co-sell the new storage service. This partnership leverages NetApp’s existing experience with hyperscalers to support enterprise customers in modernizing their data infrastructure.
