The NEAR Intents protocol suspended its operations on October 1 following a security breach. Developers estimated the total loss at approximately $3.8 million. The incident stemmed from a technical bug involving the interaction between the Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure and the platform's smart contract.
On-chain investigator ZachXBT reported that the attacker drained funds from the platform's hot wallet on the BSC network. The stolen assets were transferred to the KuCoin exchange and subsequently converted into Bitcoin. The project team has already patched the vulnerability and restored the website and core protocol functions.
Operations for deposits and withdrawals across several networks, including BSC, Polygon, TON, Optimism, Avalanche, Stellar, Monad, LayerX, Adi, Scroll, and Plasma, remain suspended for approximately 12 hours to finalize security updates. The team has committed to fully compensating all affected users.
The protocol representatives have notified law enforcement agencies and are working with security partners to track and recover the stolen funds. A comprehensive incident report is expected to be released in the coming days.
