NASA officially launched its State Hubs for Skilled Technical Workforce initiative on September 15, 2026. The program began with a meeting at Space Center Houston, where agency leaders and partners gathered to align strategies for workforce development and small business engagement.

In August, the agency selected seven projects across California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas, and Utah. Each hub is tasked with creating programs tailored to the specific aerospace industry needs of its state to help students secure technical employment.

During the inaugural meeting, participants addressed systemic challenges in the STEM pipeline. Key issues included the lack of coordination between industry and educational institutions, difficulties in scaling job programs, and public misconceptions regarding manufacturing careers.

In the coming months, the selected hubs will finalize their operational strategies. The initiative aims to provide students with the necessary tools, resources, and hands-on experience to enter the aerospace sector and support future agency missions.
