During the Tesla earnings call on October 21, Elon Musk stated that the company could eventually dominate the global passenger transport market. He projected that Tesla would account for more than half of all passenger miles in any country where the company is permitted to operate without regulatory interference.
Musk identified foreign government regulations aimed at protecting domestic industries as the primary obstacle to achieving this goal. This forecast marks a shift from his January prediction, when he suggested that autonomous vehicles would handle the vast majority of travel, while leaving room for competitors like Waymo, Zoox, Ford, GM, and Rivian.
Tesla continues to focus on autonomous technology as a key component of its valuation. The company noted that the Roadster will be the only model in its future lineup to retain manual driving capabilities.
Additionally, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's Vice President of AI, announced an updated timeline for the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. The version of FSD that does not require driver supervision is expected to be released around the second quarter of next year.
