MTS has upgraded its mobile network in Novy Urengoy by repurposing 3G frequencies for the LTE standard. This technical transition resulted in a twofold increase in average internet speeds across the city, according to company representatives.

The operator performed maintenance on nearly 50 base stations located in both the city center and industrial zones, which host major logistics, oilfield services, and transport firms. Improvements cover key residential districts, including Solnechny, Sovetsky, Vostochny, Mirny, Slavyansky, Yagelny, Yubileyny, and Druzhba.

Enhanced network capacity now supports broader access to VoLTE technology, enabling high-quality voice calls alongside simultaneous data usage. The upgrade ensures stable performance for banking applications and corporate services even during peak network traffic periods.

The project is part of a broader refarming initiative across the Yamal region. MTS has previously completed similar frequency reallocations in Tarko-Sale and Gubkinsky. Vladimir Drozdov, director of MTS in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, noted that these efforts aim to increase network capacity and improve digital service quality.
